High winds prompt closure of Winchester roadway

WINCHESTER - Winds blowing in excess of 30 mph hurled dust and other debris onto a road in Winchester today, drastically reducing visibility and prompting the closure of the corridor.

The Riverside County Department of Transportation, at the request of the California Highway Patrol, shut down Simpson Road between state Route 79 and Warren Road shortly before noon.

A county spokeswoman told City News Service that the closure would likely remain in effect until nightfall, when the winds were expected to die down.

Simpson runs east-west, and the closure covers just under three miles.
