Motorcyclist killed in Lakeland Village crash

A 66-year-old Lake Elsinore man was killed Friday, Dec. 15, in Lakeland Village when he veered into oncoming traffic and was struck by an SUV, California Highway Patrol officials say.

The man was driving southbound on Grand Avenue about 6:10 p.m. Friday when for unknown reasons he veered into the northbound traffic lane, Officer Mike Lassig wrote in a news release.

The motorcycle collided with the a BMW XI head-on and the motorcyclist was ejected from the force of the crash, according to Lassig.

The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. His name was not being immediately released until his family could be notified of his death.

The two occupants of the BMW, a 49-year-old Wildomar woman and 49-year-old Wildomar man, suffered only minor injuries.

It's unclear what speed the motorcyclist was traveling at when the collision occurred.

The California Highway Patrol Temecula Area office is investigating the crash.
