An 8-year-old girl suffered major injuries Tuesday, December 19th, as she chased a ball into the street in Menifee and ran into the side of a vehicle, sheriff's officials say.

The incident happened about 3:20 p.m. in the area of Stillwater and Halcyon drives in Menifee, according to a Riverside County sheriff's news release.

The driver of the vehicle was driving west on Stillwater when the girl collided with the car.

Sheriff's officials say that the driver rendered aid to the girl until first responders arrived.

The girl was taken to the hospital and the intersection was closed down for two hours for deputies to investigate.

Sheriff's officials say alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the collision, and the driver was not found to have committed any moving violations.

The sheriff's department encouraged anyone with information about the incident to contact Officer Fraley of the Menifee Police Traffic Division at 951-210-1000.
