Last updated 1/23/2018 at Noon

A report of a man with a gun prompted the lockdown of a Menifee elementary school on Tuesday afternoon, Jan. 23, but a suspect was apprehended and the lockdown quickly lifted, sheriff's officials say.

Riverside County sheriff's Deputy Mike Vasquez wrote in an email that the sheriff's department received the call in the 27200 block of Heritage Lake Drive in Menifee. That's where Mesa View Elementary school is located. The school was locked down as a precaution as deputies looked into the report.

Vasquez wrote that a man matching the description of the man with the gun was detained and the lockdown was lifted within minutes.

The sheriff's spokesman noted that there is no threat to students, staff or citizens.

The sheriff's department has released no additional details about the incident.

#MenifeePD lifted lockdowns on school in area of police Investigation. Investigation is ongoing. Additional details to follow.
