Hemet Ryan Air Attack Base hosts visiting air tankers in training exercises

Hemet Ryan Air Attack Base Helitack Capt. Frank Abril checks out the base's UH-1H Super Huey stationed at the base that is always ready to go in any fire or emergency when needed.

The recent wintery weather in Northern California has not stopped Cal Fire Aviation Services from continuing their training with six of their S-2T air tankers flying training missions out of Hemet-Ryan Airport during the past week.

The twin engine S-T2's awed residents of the Red Mountain area above Sage and Poppet Flats with simulated air drops with water instead of the familiar red Phos-Chek last week. The training and pilot proficiency testing is all in expectation of yet another dry year with high grasses and tinder dry trees covering the foothills and mountains of Southern California....
