First SCYBR competition hosts 23 cowpokes

Jamie Laird of Temecula hangs on for the longest ride of the Mutton Bustin' event Saturday, March 10, during the inaugural Southern California Youth Bull Riders competition at Hauser's Bucking Bull Arena in Winchester.

The inaugural Southern California Youth Bull Riders competition took place March 10 at Hauser's Bucking Bull Arena in Winchester and included 23 riders in the five age-level divisions.

Three of the riders stayed on their animal long enough for a score, although one of those chose a re-ride in which the new result replaced the original score regardless of whether it was an improvement and was bucked off on the re-ride.

None of the nine Mutton Bustin' competitors stayed on their sheep for the required six seconds, but 6-year-old Jamie Laird of Temecula had the longest ride at 5.5 seconds. Lai...
