The chargrilled pork banh mi comes with radish, cucumber, cilantro, pickled carrots and mayo on a crisp French baguette.

The aromatic and spice-laden smell of pho broth wafts in from the kitchen as servers rush in and out, working to accommodate the dozens of people that pack nearly every table. I can hear the clinking of forks and spoons against ceramic plates, excited conversation and laughter.

The scene is familiar on many a Thursday afternoon at Delish Vietnamese & Vegetarian Cuisine, located off Margarita Road near the Promenade Temecula. It's a time when a restaurant would seemingly be empty or at least less packed, but that wasn't the case on this particular day.

I had been intrigued to try Delish, seeing that it had positive reviews on both Yelp and social media groups. When I walked in, I wasn't disappointed.

The interior of the restaurant looks clean and modern. A number of minimalist ceiling lamps shine down over polished wood and black granite tables. A water feature bubbles just to the left of the doorway as people walk in. I was quickly shown to a table and seated.

I started with an appetizer of barbecue chicken bao bao, $7.50. Bao bao are bread-like buns filled with meat. At Delish, the bao bao come with cucumber, pickled carrots, radish and a house sauce. Tangy vegetables and slightly sweet barbecued meat made for a great flavor combination.

Next, I tried the chargrilled pork banh mi, $5.50. I'm a tough critic when it comes to banh mi. It's one of my favorite foods, and I have a go-to place not far from California State University Fullerton where the banh mi can't be beat. But I kept an open mind when I ordered at Delish.

The banh mi came out with all the usual ingredients – radish, cucumber, cilantro, pickled carrots and mayo on a crisp French baguette. In my opinion, the important thing to a good banh mi is the meat, and Delish delivered a flavorful grilled pork that tied the whole sandwich together.

The bao bao at Delish Vietnamese & Vegetarian Cuisine lives up to the restaurant's name. Delish in Temecula serves traditional Vietnamese, variety of vegetarian options.

Of course, the restaurant has vegetarian in its name, so it has an entire page dedicated to meatless items on its menu, including fried tofu, $5.50, veggie dumplings, $6.50 and "Buddha's Mocked Banh Mi," which uses a meat substitute as a filling, $5.50.

Numerous Yelp reviewers recommend the pho menu. At Delish, the Vietnamese beef broth and noodle soup comes with the standard ingredients, including Thai basil, lime, bean sprouts, jalapenos, hoisin sauce and chili paste.

The pho options range in price from $7.50 to $9.75, depending on the cuts of meat ordered for the soup. Meat cuts include rare steak, tendon, tripe and meatballs.

The restaurant's quality banh mi sandwiches and other traditional Vietnamese fare will definitely have me coming back in the near future.
