A 23-year-old man was majorly injured Sunday evening when he crossed a Perris roadway through oncoming traffic and was struck by a vehicle, according to sheriff’s officials.

The man was struck shortly after 9 p.m. as he crossed Redlands Avenue at San Jacinto Avenue on his skateboard against a red light, according to a Riverside County sheriff’s news release. Officials say the driver of the vehicle, a 54-year-old Romoland man, had a green light.

The 23-year-old was taken to the hospital and admitted to the ICU for his injuries.

The driver of the vehicle was uninjured. Sheriff’s officials say he was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

The intersection was closed for several hours for sheriff’s officials to investigate and was reopened to traffic about 2 a.m., according to the release.

Sheriff’s officials are asking anyone with information about the incident to call the Perris station at 951-210-1074.
