A woman was found dead in Winchester in the early morning hours Saturday, March 31, and a man taken into custody in connection with her death, was arrested for her murder.

According to a press release issued by the Riverside County Sheriff's Office, the initial call of assault with a deadly weapon came in 3:42 a.m. When deputies arrived on the scene in the area of Winchester and Pourroy Roads in the unincorporated community of Winchester, they found an adult female victim deceased on the roadway and an adult male with significant injuries lying nearby.

The man was transported to an area hospital for treatment of his injuries before eventually being arrested as the main suspect in the woman's murder.

The identities of both subjects are being withheld pending notification to the victim's next of kin.

There are no outstanding suspect's and no threat to the public, the press release reported.

Riverside County Sheriff Deputy Mike Vasquez said he could not confirm exactly where the body was found, the identity of the victim or the method in which she was killed.

Homicide detectives closed a portion of Winchester Road between Pourroy Road and Abelia Street while they conducted their investigation. During the closure which lasted roughly 12 hours, areas of Abelia Sports Park, managed by ValleyWide Recreation and Park District was also closed during the investigation.

The Riverside Sheriff's Department-Central Homicide Unit and Southwest Station Investigators have assumed the investigation and are requesting the public's assistance with any information regarding this incident.

A woman was found dead in Winchester in the early morning hours Saturday, March 31, and a man was taken into custody in connection with her death, according to Riverside County Sheriff Deputy Mike Vasquez.

"We go the call just before 4 o'clock this morning of a suspicious circumstance," Vasquez said.

Upon their arrival, deputies found a "female deceased at the scene."

Vasquez said he could not confirm exactly where the body was found, the identity of the victim or the method in which she was killed.

An area inside Abelia Sports Park, managed by ValleyWide Recreation and Park District was also closed during a homicide investigation, Saturday, March 31.

According to Vasquez a man found in the area was taken in for questioning regarding the incident, which investigators are treating as a homicide.

"He has been detained and is not yet formally arrested," Vasquez said. "We don't believe there are any outstanding suspects."

Vasquez said there is no threat to the public.

A determination as to the cause of the woman's death will be made by the Riverside County Coroner's Office, according to Vasquez.
