LAKE ELSINORE – One person was killed and another suffered minor injuries Sunday, April 1, when a vehicle crashed into a utility pole and burst into flames in Lake Elsinore, authorities said.

The crash was reported at 7:27 p.m. on Railroad Canyon Road at Church Street, Tawny Cabral of the Riverside County Fire Department said.

“The first arriving engine company reported one vehicle that struck a pole and was fully involved with fire,” Cabral said.

One person was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim’s name was not released pending notification of relatives. A second victim suffered minor injuries and refused further medical treatment after evaluation by paramedics.

A news videographer at the scene said that several bystanders tried in vain to rescue the person trapped inside the burning vehicle.
