Hemet Fire Department Measure U funding closing firefighter and rescue services staffing gap

Hemet Fire Station 5 located at 120 N. Hemet St. in eastern Hemet was reopened because of the Measure U one cent sales tax approved by city voters in November 2016. The station has one captain, one firefighter and one paramedic on duty 24-hours a day.

The Hemet Fire Department, with the help of the residents' passage of Measure U, is nearing full staffing at its five fire stations with two captain vacancies being filled in May and five firefighter-paramedics expected to begin their academy training in June, Hemet Fire Chief Scott Brown said.

Brown and retired Police Chief Dave Brown in continuing reports before the city council have praised the city residents and council for their efforts in getting the Measure U one cent sales tax measure passed and the benefit it continues to bring to residents.
