TEMECULA – The Temecula Valley High School Drama’s 2018 spring musical production, “Urinetown: The Musical,” will soon be debuting in the Golden Bear Theater.

“’Urinetown: The Musical’ is unique in that it is a satire of contemporaneously relevant modern political concerns and the form of musical theatre that would concern itself with such matters,” drama teacher Derek Heid said. “It is a loving send-up of the American musical and over the course of its Tony award-winning book and score makes incessant fun of itself.”

The play takes place in a town that is suffering through such a significant drought that the use of private restrooms has been outlawed, forcing the already cash-strapped populace to pay and ever-rising fee to use corporately maintained facilities. Upheaval occurs when an Everyman working for the oppressors meets a girl, falls in love and listens to his conscience for the first time ever. Things do not go well, in keeping with the show’s self-mocking attitude, and the audience is left to ponder the evils of unchecked capitalism and unchecked acts of revolution.

“Urinetown: The Musical” plays 7 p.m. April 19, 20, 21, 27 and 28 in the TVHS Golden Bear Theater. Tickets are $10 for general admission and $9 for students. Tickets can be purchased through the box office at (951) 695-7300, ext. 2147, or by emailing Heid at [email protected]
