Firefighters battling 73-acre blaze in Lake Elsinore

Last updated 4/28/2018 at 6:54pm

A wind-fueled brush fire on a hillside in Lake Elsinore near Interstate 15 grew to 73 acres with no containment today, authorities said.

The fire was reported at 2:26 p.m. next to the southbound side of the freeway near Main Street, Tawny Cabral of the Riverside County Fire Department said.

No structures were threatened and no injuries were reported. The fire was burning in a grassy field and spreading at a moderate speed, according to Cabral.

Flames were about 7 feet tall and may have been sparked by utility wires, according to a California Highway Patrol incident report.

Authorities closed the Camino del Norte frontage road between Main and Second streets and urged the public to avoid the area. No evacuations have been issued.
