Last updated 5/1/2018 at 7:25am

Firefighters on Monday, April 30, were battling a blaze that started in a detached garage before spreading to a home in San Jacinto.

The fire was reported about 12:42 p.m. at a home in the 200 block of South Santa Fe Avenue, according Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department spokeswoman April Newman.

Newman wrote that the first arriving engine company found the fire burning in the detached garage to the rear of the residence.

In an update shortly after 1 p.m., she wrote that the fire had extended into the home.

Animal control was called to help with a loose dog on the property.

Firefighters would remain on scene for another two to three hours, according to Newman.
