TEMECULA – To celebrate the 125th anniversary of the formation of Riverside County, May 2, 1893, the Temecula Valley Historical Society will re-enact a debate for and against the creation of a new county during their Monday, May 21 presentation, 6 p.m., in the Little Temecula History Center. No reservations are needed for the free event. Riverside County Historical Commissioners Steve Lech and Darell Farnbach will participate in the re-enactment with Dick Fox, past president of the society.

The 1895 map is the first depicting the new Riverside county.

The debate was drafted by Lech to show many of the points argued for and against the creation of the county during debates held throughout the area to engage residents to consider separation from San Bernardino and San Diego counties.

In addition to the presentation, the four local high school seniors awarded college scholarships by the society will be introduced at the gathering.

The doors will open 5:30 p.m., and refreshments will be available before the presentation.
