Wine Country events heat up with concerts and tastings for Memorial Day weekend

With Memorial Day fast approaching, wineries in Temecula Valley Wine Country are offering a variety of events designed to keep the good times rolling.

Cougar Vineyard & Winery will feature live music Friday, May 25, 5-8 p.m., with local acoustic guitarist and songwriter Tim Apple.

Apple, who grew up in a household full of music and sang in his church's choir when he was in grade school, plays a wide variety of music from jazz, blues and reggae to pop, rock and metal. The talented guitarist attended the Musicians Institute in Hollywood for Guitar and studied under the likes of Paul Gilbert, Prashant Aswani and more. He is in the process of recording his first solo album, which should be out later this year.

Then, Sunday, May 27, 2-5 p.m., Cougar will play host to Carlson and Clark Flamenco Duo, a talented Flamenco Guitar duo who has been entertaining Southern California since 1997.

Saturday night promises to be full of fun at Maurice Car'rie Winery, 6-9 p.m., May 26, when Crimson Crow takes to the winery's stage. The band plays music from artists such as Bad Company, Tom Petty, Billy Idol, the Rolling Stones and many more. The free event is bound to be tons of fun for the classic rocker in everyone. Arrive early and grab a picnic table or bring beach chairs and blankets and enjoy this night of award-winning wines, the winery's famous hot sourdough Brie bread and some great music. Looking a for laid back way to spend Memorial Day? Why not head out to South Coast Winery at Rancho California Road in Temecula for their daily happy hour at The Vineyard Rose? If food and wine is more the style, head over to Carter Estate Winery for a truly interactive experience with their Food and Wine Pairing, held daily at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Learn about the various wines this 3-year-old winery produces, including their sparkling wines using the process known as Methode Champenoise. Tour the refrigerated crush pad facility which is also where much of the sparkling wine production takes place.
