Controlled burn scheduled for Santa Rosa Plateau

Last updated 5/23/2018 at 1:57pm

The Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department will be doing a controlled burn Wednesday, May 23, at the Santa Rosa Plateau Nature Conservancy near Murrieta and smoke may be visible at times.

About 200 acres of grassland will be burned to get rid of non-native grasses and prevent fire hazards, according to a news release from fire officials.

The release says that smoke may be visible from nearby communities but will disperse quickly and is not expected to be a health hazard.

Controlled burns usually only happen if the weather conditions are right. They typically begin after 6 a.m. and conclude by noon the same day, according to the release.
