Pirates sing fun songs at the fourth grade performance of "Pirates of Grammar Island" at the Hamilton K-8 school Thursday, May 24.

Mrs. Wood's fourth grade class at Hamilton K-8 School presented the musical play "Pirates of Grammar Island" Thursday, May 24.

The children performed a number of songs, including "Pirates from Grammar Island," "The Sentence Song," "He's an Antonym," "It's a Curse," "Capitalize," "We are Punctuation Pirates," "Parts of Speech," "Hunting for some Verbs" and "I'm the Queen of Pronouns." The songs were catchy, educational and full of good humor.

Parents, friends and relatives cheered and sang along to the students songs as they followed the storyline.

According to an internet review of the play, "Sure, they're pirates, but you won't believe what buried treasure they're looking for. With a map in one hand and a dictionary in the other, these brigands scour uncharted waters for grammatical gold: complete sentences, parts of speech, contractions, subject-verb agreement and correct punctuation and capitalization."

The fun and fast-paced musical play was a total hit for the students, teachers and audience.

"All grade level plays were so well put together," Janene Edmisten said. "Thanks to Mrs. Stillman and staff, I hope to see these performances again next year!"

The cast included Joanna Martinez as the Collector of Synonyms, Brooklyn Hicks as the Collector of Antonyms, Giselle Cardenas, Azul Cervantes, Deanna Bailey and Jeremiah Saul as the Punctuation Pirates, Lilly Salgado as the Adverb Librarian and Autumn Maulding as the Adjective Librarian. The keepers of sentences were John Osuna for Declarative, Joey Clegg for Interrogative, Diego Ramirez for Imperative, Kalli Perez Tinics for Exclamatory.

Other cast members included Zane Banash as Captain Comma, Kristian Garcia as Schmitty, Ryan Coleman as Downing and Skyy Vollan as the Queen. Kaitlynn Barreto, Judo N., Kalli Perez Tinics served as Servants to Her Majesty, while Braidyn Wright, Kaitlynn Barreto, Danika Caywood, Logan Fitzgerald and Destiny Torres performed as Capital Officials.
