RIVERSIDE – A motorcyclist was killed and a sedan landed on its roof in an apparent hit-and-run crash on Interstate 215 in the pre-dawn hours in Riverside Sunday, June 10.

The crash was reported at 3:42 a.m. on the southbound side of the freeway north of Third Street, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Initial reports indicate that a white Nissan sedan was driving recklessly, hit a motorcycle and overturned shortly after.

The driver of the Nissan then fled on foot and a witness told a CHP dispatcher that he saw a man running from the center divider to the right shoulder of the freeway less than a mile north of the crash site.

It was not immediately clear if the suspect was arrested, but authorities checked Moreno Valley Medical Center and Riverside University Health System Medical Center for the suspect and came up empty, according to a CHP incident report.

The identity of the victim was not disclosed.

Multiple lanes on the southbound Interstate 215 were closed for nearly five hours but re-opened by 8 a.m.
