California's mandate to go solar deserves careful consideration

In order to calculate the energy consumption a home draws over a year, prior months usage for 12 consecutive months is required.

Residents have probably heard by now the mandate was approved for photovoltaic solar panels to be on all newly built homes.

So how are the power demands of a newly built home calculated? Newly constructed homes have no usage history, which is the foundation for getting to the correct number of panels needed to power the home. Builders are putting an average of four panels on newly built homes, which is only 1-2 kilowatts of power per home.
