Hemet's proposed fiscal year 2018-2019 General Fund 'balanced' budget draws praise and criticism

Hemet City Manager Alan Parker was greeted with both praise and criticism by the Hemet City Council for proposing the city’s first balanced budget in more than a decade during the Tuesday, June 12, regular city council meeting.

The praise came with the proposal that would bring the city’s 2018-2019 fiscal year budget in balance, erasing years of deficit spending experienced by previous city councils but, at the cost of dipping into the recently passed Measure U one-cent sales tax designed for use only by the city’s public safety departments, fire and police.
