Visitors flocked to Marna O'Brien Park in Wildomar Saturday, June 23, for camping, a movie and some splish-splashing fun.

Young families started arriving around 4:30 p.m. to set up tents for the fifth annual Camp out in the Park event, which had them pay a $5 fee to set up a tent and stay overnight.

There were numerous items set up at the park for child enjoyment including an inflatable water slide, a bounce house and a bubble-making station.

As nightfall settled in, families could watch the movie "Open Season" on a large inflatable screen.

The event was one of many being held for The Great American Campout, a National Wildlife Federation effort to get people outdoors.

City Councilwoman Bridgette Moore, who was helping to check campers in, said some visitors had come from quite a distance just to camp.

"We have a family here from Pasadena, and it was the first time the children had ever set up a tent," Moore said. "To see families experience things for the first time is my favorite thing."
