Menifee council fails to reach consensus regarding empty mayor's seat

Menifee city councilmembers couldn’t reach a consensus on how to fill late Mayor Neil Winter’s seat at their Wednesday, June 20, meeting.

The council has three options for filling the vacant office of mayor: appoint someone through December 2020, elect the mayor during the general election in November or hold a special election in March 2019.

Three of the four sitting councilmembers were in agreement that the seat needed to be filled with an appointment. Councilman Matt Liesemeyer was the exception, calling instead for an election.
