Last updated 7/2/2018 at 3:21pm

A woman was arrested today on suspicion of murder for allegedly gunning down her husband at their Hemet home, then attempting to make a run for the border.

Beatriz Navarrete, 42, was taken into custody in Imperial County within a few hours of the alleged attack on 41-year-old Hector Navarrete.

Officers were called to the victim's home in the 900 block of Silver Dust Trail, near Fruitvale Avenue, about 6:20 a.m. to investigate reports of a shooting, according to Hemet police Lt. Eddie Pust.

The victim was located in the house and pronounced dead at the scene a short time later by paramedics, he said.

Detectives immediately suspected Beatriz Navarrete was the perpetrator, and alerts were issued to surrounding police agencies regarding the circumstances, as well as the woman's description and vehicle, according to Pust.

He said law enforcement officials in Imperial County found and detained Navarrete as she was allegedly preparing to drive across the border into Mexico.

There was no word on a possible motive for the shooting.

Navarete was expected to be transported to a Riverside County detention facility later today or tomorrow.
