Aaron Bruno placed 13th overall in the June 23 Open Tuff Trucks racing competition, which was part of the San Diego County Fair, but the Menifee driver was given the award for first place among leaf spring trucks.

Each driver was given four runs on the Del Mar Arena course, and the fastest run constituted the driver’s official time. Bruno completed the course in 43.727 seconds.

“We’re super proud to have the Deaver team to have our back along with Fox Racing,” Bruno said.

The overall fast time of 38.478 seconds was posted by El Cajon driver Jason McNeil, whose two brothers have won Tuff Trucks races in the past and whose father was an off-road and Cajon Speedway racer. It was Bruno’s second year as a Tuff Trucks driver. He also drives in Stadium Super Trucks races.

“We don’t do any desert racing yet, but we’re headed out that way,” Bruno said.

WGAS Motorsports allows a co-driver for the Tuff Trucks races in the Del Mar Arena, and Menifee’s Raymond Beler joined Bruno in the truck, June 23. The course includes hills and jumping to minimize time is allowed.

“It really is tough trucks,” Bruno said.

Bruno drove a 2001 Toyota Tundra pickup truck with a stock 4.7-liter V-8 engine.

“The truck, crew and everybody involved with WGAS Motorsports did a pretty good job,” Bruno said. “We just want to really thank them.”

Bruno was born in Phoenix but has lived in the Temecula Valley since he was nine. He graduated from Paloma Valley High School in 2002.
