Last updated 7/8/2018 at 9:54pm

Residents of 20 homes were temporarily evacuated Sunday night, July 8, after a fire broke out in a Temecula field, fire officials said.

The 1.25 acre fire was reported shortly before 5 p.m. in the 41000 block of Margarita Road, according to Tawny Cabral of the Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department.

Cabral initially said that roughly 10 homes were threatened by the blaze.

In an update around 6 p.m. she wrote that residents from a total of 20 homes had been evacuated temporarily but they had since returned and firefighters had stopped the fire's "forward progress".

The blaze was fully contained around 8:40 p.m., according to fire officials.

As of press time, the cause of the blaze remained under investigation.
