SAN JACINTO – During the June 28 meeting, the Mt. San Jacinto College board of trustees adopted a tentative $92,555,592 million unrestricted general fund budget for 2018-2019. The unrestricted general fund pays for operations, materials, supplies, salaries and benefits, among other things.

The district’s total budget of $268,999,231 million includes the general fund, restricted funds and auxiliary funds for use in specific areas. The budget also includes funds for the bond project fund – Measure AA, which voters approved in 2014. MSJC’s budget includes serving 12,420 full-time equivalent students.

Highlights of the budget include 12 replacement faculty members due to retirements or resignations; increase to California State Teachers Retirement System and Public Employees Retirement System employer contributions; 7 percent board reserve; staff step and column increases and increased operational expense for newly acquired facilities.

A tentative budget is approved so the district maintains spending authority into the new fiscal year, which began July 1. The final 2018-2019 budget includes items in the recently enacted state budget and will be presented to the board of trustees for adoption in September.
