Heat wave brings record-breaking temperatures, dust storms and thunderstorms to the area

Storm clouds begin to roll in to the Murrieta area Saturday, July 7.

A heat wave that struck the area last week resulted in broken records, thunderstorms and even a sandstorm, in the days following the Fourth of July holiday. Air quality warnings were issued daily by the South Coast Air Quality Management District from Thursday, July 5, through Monday this week due to the stifling heat and fires in nearby areas.

The heat wave sent temperatures soaring into the triple digits throughout the Inland Empire Thursday through Sunday causing officials to issue an excessive heat warning that lasted Thursday through Saturday last week.
