The Fine Arts Network will present "Pirates of Penzance" for seven shows.

The cast of "Pirates of Penzance" is bringing a lovable, unpredictable drama to the Old Town Temecula Community Theater.

Since its original debut in 1879, "Pirates of Penzance" has continued to entertain show goers with its compelling story and comedic nature. Guests will have plenty of opportunity to catch a show since The Fine Arts Network still has seven shows left to perform in Temecula.

Arthur Sullivan and William Gilbert's most popular show from 1879 is a "rollicking, delightfully funny tale of a band of soft-tempered pirates," according to the show description by the Temecula Community Theater. Filled with catchy tunes and humor, the classic play is fun and appropriate for all ages. The story is filled with a series of goofy mix-ups starring a pirate apprentice, Frederic, a beautiful young Mabel and a dopey Major-General.

The story evolves as Frederic, who was mistakenly apprenticed to a pirate at a young age, comes upon his 21st birthday and is supposed to be released from his apprentice duties. He meets Mabel, the daughter of Major-General Stanley, and the two fall madly in love. Frederic soon learns that he was born on Feb. 29 and therefore his birthday only happens once each leap year. This becomes a problem as he is sworn to serve with the pirates until his 21st birthday. They convince him that he must stay with them until his "real 21st birthday," therefore for another 63 years.

Bound by his agreement, Frederic must stay with the tenderhearted pirates as he continues to fight for the hand of Mabel and for his freedom. Mabel agrees to wait for him faithfully but fate will only tell whether the two will live "happily ever after."

The cast was carefully picked by the director, Joseph Arreola and his team. The Pirate King is played by Brandon Gonzalez, Major-General Stanley played by Kit Fugrad, Frederick played by Saul Esqueda and Mabel played by Madison Ligtermoet.
