Census data shows decline of home ownership for families

The number of home-owning families with children decrease by almost 3.6 million from 2006 to 2016, according to US Census data. Over the same period, the number of families with children living in rentals has increased by 1.9 million.

This comes amid a trend of declining birthrates, a rising cost of raising children and an increase in the average age of first-time mothers.

In a study conducted by analysts with RENTCafé, declining ownership rates among families with children is a prominent trend in the Inland Empire.
