A five-vehicle wreck today involving a big rig and four sedans on Interstate 15 in Temecula left one person injured and forced the

closure of all but one traffic lane on the southbound side of the freeway.

The crash was reported about 4 p.m. near the exit for Rancho California Road, according to the California Highway Patrol, though the circumstances were unclear.

The big rig was stalled in the No. 3 lane and the cars were scattered elsewhere on the southbound side, according to reports from the scene.

Riverside County Fire Department paramedics arrived within a few minutes and discovered one motorist with moderate injuries, including a possible fractured hip. The victim was to a hospital for treatment.

Only the fast lane was open immediately after the collision. However, the CHP briefly closed all southbound lanes for emergency crews, causing a backup north into Wildomar.

At least one lane was open and moving by 4:30 p.m., the CHP reported.

This is a breaking news story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
