HEMET - A woman and her 7-year-old daughter were injured today in a collision at an intersection in an unincorporated area east of Hemet, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The crash occurred at 7:24 a.m. at Stetson Avenue and Lake Street, a two-way stop intersection, according to the CHP. A southbound Mercedes-Benz SUV pulled out from a stop sign on Lake and was broadsided by an eastbound Honda Civic, CHP Officer Darren Meyer said.

The driver of the Honda, Marissa Gomez, 27, was not wearing a seatbelt, nor was her daughter secured in a child safety seat or otherwise restrained, he said. Both were hospitalized for non-life-threatening injuries, according to Meyer. The woman's injuries included a broken ankle, he said.

The driver of the SUV was unhurt.

Meyer said drugs and alcohol were not a factor in the crash and that an investigation was ongoing. He said Gomez could be issued a citation at a later date for not properly securing her daughter in the vehicle.
