MURRIETA - Residents of a Murrieta apartment building were evacuated during a five-hour overnight standoff, but police arrested their suspect just after midnight today.

Murrieta Police Department said they received a complaint involving a firearm at about 8 p.m. Saturday at the Silverado Apartments near the intersection of Los Alamos Road and Lincoln Avenue.

Police ordered residents in nearby apartments to evacuate and a SWAT team was called in to arrest the suspect.

Residents later said on social media that they heard a loud explosion, and police later confirmed the SWAT team had caused it.

Shortly after, at about 1 a.m., police said the suspect had surrendered and was arrested. Residents who had evacuated were allowed back into their homes.

It was not immediately clear what the nature of the complaint was that led police to the apartment building in the first place. No injuries were reported, according to Lt. Tony Conrad.
