Riverside County Sheriff's deputies responded to reports of a "suspicious circumstance" in the area of Thomas Road, located in the unincorporated community of Sage Sunday, Aug. 26, at about 4 p.m., according to sheriff officials.

Deputies arrived at the location of the reporting party who reported hearing gunshots.

The unidentified man said he was in the area unlawfully without the owner's permission and was accompanied by one male adult and two male juveniles when he heard the gunshots.

While conducting their investigation, deputies received information of a male adult who arrived at the hospital with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. The male victim was treated and released before deputies arrived at the hospital to contact him.

As part of the investigation, 19-year-old, Michael Daniel McManus was arrested for illegal possession of an assault rifle. He was booked into the Southwest Detention Center where he is being held in lieu of $5,000 bail.

This is an active investigation and no further information is available at this time. Anyone with any information regarding this incident, should contact the Riverside County Sheriff's Department at (951) 776-1099 or (800) 950-2444.
