Temecula finalizes plan to purchase street lights from Edison, use savings to fund Margarita Recreation center

Temecula City Council approved a plan to buy most street lights within the city limits from Southern California Edison last week and to retrofit them with LEDs, an action that’s expected to save the city hundreds of thousands of dollars per year – savings that will be used to fund financing to renovate the Margarita Recreation Center.

The city council voted Aug. 14, to purchase about 7,300 street lights from Edison at a cost of a little under $5.4 million from the general fund, though the final cost may change after final inventory, Temecula Public Works Director Pat Thomas said.
