Legislature must act on wildfires

This past year some of the worst wildfires in California history have killed 52 people, destroyed thousands of homes and scorched an area larger than greater Los Angeles. Surviving the Cedar fire’s 273,246 acres and 2,820 structures damaged, the Witch fire’s 197,990 acres and 1,650 structures damaged, the Cocos, Paradise and Lilac fires in San Diego has taught people a lot. Helping victims is the immediate priority, but the state must develop policies that will prevent future megafires.
