MORENO VALLEY - Firefighters halted the forward progression of a brush fire that broke out in a remote unincorporated area north of Moreno Valley today, but not before it charred about 32 acres.

The fire ignited just before noon in the 9600 block of High Country Drive, in the hills east of the Box Springs Mountain Reserve, said Tawny Cabral of the Riverside County Fire Department.

First-arriving fire crews reported that the fire had blackened seven to 10 acres of light brush and was burning at a slow rate. That figure was later updated to 25 to 30 acres once firefighters were able to stop the fire from spreading.

No injuries were reported and no structures were threatened by the fire, Cabral said.
