Murrieta's Cajun Karate had 29 students compete at the United States Association of Martial Artists World Championships (USAMA) in Riverside Saturday, Aug. 4.

Earlier this month 29 students from Cajun Karate in Murrieta competed at the United States Association of Martial Artists World Championships, which took place in Riverside, and had great success. The event was held at the Riverside Convention Center, where seven countries were represented, and Cajun Karate brought home 19 World Champions for first place, 14 second place, three third place, six fourth place and one Grand Champion.

Cajun Karate teaches Keichu-Do, a combination of karate, boxing, judo and jiu-jitsu. Since self-defense is the backbone of Keichu-Do, everything they teach has an application for self-defense. Chief instructor Jeff Crothers is a 5th Degree Black Belt in Keichu-Do and he and his staff teach all ages starting at age 4 to 94 how to defend themselves against potential confrontation ranging from verbal attacks to physical assaults. Crothers, a 15-time USKA National and World Champion in karate, character and life skill coach and has overcome childhood learning disabilities through taking karate classes and thrives on providing a safe yet challenging environment for his students, in which their goals can be realized.

"Our desire is to teach and inspire the young and old alike to attain their best in learning and perfecting the skill of martial arts," says Crothers, via his website.

Crothers moved to Murrieta in 2010 where he became the head instructor at Cajun Karate, then took over the business with his wife Monica in 2013.
