HEMET - A brush fire that erupted today just west of Hemet-Ryan Airport burned about an acre before it was stopped.

The non-injury blaze was reported at 2:45 p.m. in a dry wash near the intersection of Stetson Avenue and Warren Road, according to the Hemet Fire Department.

A battalion chief at the scene said the flames were concentrated in light vegetation on the south side of Stetson.

A Cal Fire air tanker crew based at Hemet-Ryan was called in to make drops on the brusher, and the forward rate of spread was stopped in 10 minutes, according to reports from the scene.

Crews were expected to be mopping up for several hours.

There was no word on what triggered the blaze.
