PERRIS - A man who tumbled from a moving car that he leaped upon while arguing with his girlfriend at a Perris intersection was in serious condition on Sept. 6, according to authorities.

The confrontation happened about 6 p.m. Sept. 5 at Crystal Creek and Murrieta roads, according to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.

Investigators said that the 20-year-old pedestrian, identified only as a Mead Valley resident, got into a heated exchange with his girlfriend and jumped onto her car as she started to drive away. Unable to maintain his balance on the moving vehicle, the man fell onto the roadway, landing head-first and suffering major trauma, according to sheriff's officials.

The woman, who was not identified, immediately stopped the car and called 911.

Paramedics took the man to Riverside University Medical Center in Moreno Valley, where he underwent surgery, according to the sheriff's department. He remains in serious condition.

The woman cooperated with deputies and was not arrested.
