Firefighters quickly surround brushfire in Murrieta

Last updated 9/10/2018 at 4:15pm

A brush fire that broke out today on the southwestern edge of Murrieta blackened about 2 1/2 acres before crews got it under control.

The non-injury blaze was reported at 1:08 p.m. in the area of Adams Avenue and Cherry Street, just west of Interstate 15, according to the Murrieta Fire Department.

"The fire ran the length of a ditch, didn't get close to any houses,'' fire Chief Scott Ferguson told City News Service. "It was in our city, then spread into the county area.''

Murrieta and Riverside County Fire Department crews combined efforts to contain the brusher, aided by several Cal Fire water-dropping helicopters.

The fire was encircled by 1:45 p.m. Ferguson said the cause of the blaze was under investigation.

This is a developing story and we will update as soon as details are made available.
