Graffiti, vandalism spur bench and water fountain removal in downtown Hemet parks

Continuing graffiti and vandalism in two Hemet downtown parks have forced city maintenance crews to remove several benches and a drinking fountain, according to the city public works department.

Charles Russell, Hemet’s refuse supervisor in the department said several benches in Weston Park, located on Florida Avenue between Taylor and Thompson streets, have been removed because of recurring graffiti or tagging by late-night vandals.

Likewise, a drinking fountain in Welch Memorial Green park at Florida Avenue east of Buena Vista Street was also removed. That vandalism incident was believ...
