Child killed by truck in Moreno Valley

MORENO VALLEY - A toddler was struck and killed on Wednesday, Sept. 12, on a Moreno Valley street, though the circumstances were not immediately clear.

The fatality happened about 10:20 a.m. in the 24500 block of Fir Avenue, near Indian Street, according to Riverside County sheriff's and fire officials.

The child, whose identity was not released, was hit by a truck. Authorities did not say how or why the victim ended up in the roadway.

The driver stopped and remained at the location, where he was questioned but not arrested, according to the sheriff's department.

Paramedics pronounced the toddler dead at the scene.

Both sides of Fir were shut down between Indian and Ross Street for the ensuing investigation. The road was expected to be re-opened about 2 p.m., officials said.
