LAKE ELSINORE - Fifty-four people were dislodged, and 53 of them arrested during a sweep of homeless camps dotting the Lake Elsinore and Wildomar area, a sheriff's sergeant said on Sunday, Sept. 23.

On Saturday, Riverside County sheriff's deputies, alongside personnel from various city agencies and service organizations, visited 43 encampments during a ``trespass enforcement operation,'' said Sgt. James Woodland.

The coordinated sweep was designed to provide homeless people with social services and discourage squatters from staying in the area Deputies arrested 53 people on suspicion of various crimes, including trespassing and having an outstanding arrest warrant, according to Woodland.

Another person who was initially arrested was later released with a Citation.

“All 54 people contacted were offered assistance and were provided information for services to assist with home placement. Of those, 26 people accepted assistance through Social Work Action Group (SWAG),'' said Woodland.

Additionally, two vehicles were impounded and two dogs were rescued, he said.
