PERRIS - Three people were injured in a four-vehicle crash early morning on Sunday, Sept. 23 on a stretch of Interstate 215 near Perris.

The crash was reported at 3:49 a.m. on the southbound side of the 215 Freeway south of Van Buren Boulevard, said April Newman of the Riverside County Fire Department.

Two people had to be freed from the wreckage by firefighters and were hospitalized with major injuries, she said,\. A third person suffered moderate injuries.

The people in one of the vehicles involved may have run away into the night, though it was unclear if any arrests were made, according to an incident report from the California Highway Patrol.

The wreck prompted a full closure of the southbound side of the freeway until about 5 a.m.

The CHP was investigating the crash.
