Dr. Richard Schmitz revists time spent in theater during World War II

Dr. Richard D. Schmitz joined the Army in 1943 and knew he would see battle. Ultimately, he was to be part of an historical and unprecedented series of events.

On Tuesday, June 6, 1944, Schmitz participated in the historic D-Day invasion and pushed from the beaches at Normandy into the French interior with thousands of other Allied troops.

The Normandy landings were the Allied amphibious invasion of Normandy, France, which began Tuesday, June 6, 1944, as part of Operation Overlord (code-named Operation Neptune) during World War II. Referred to as D-Day, this was the largest seaborne invasio...
