October news from Anza VFW Post 1873 and its Auxiliary

Last updated 10/5/2018 at 4:39am

Hopefully, by the time you read this notice, we will have had a couple of days with a nice rain. We sure could use it.

First, heads up, Anza Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1873 will be holding an auction Thursday, Oct. 25, starting 6 p.m. Bring good, clean useable items you think someone might be interested in. It is not a “clean out the garage” event. If your items don’t sell, you are requested to take them back. Have your items at the VFW by 5 p.m.

Another heads up, the post will be holding a potluck Halloween and Karaoke Party Saturday, Oct. 27, starting at 4 p.m. Everyone can come join in the fun.

Just a reminder that we are still looking for volunteers to cook, prep and work the dinners. We have great help but can always use more.

Activities for October, which is National Pajama Month, are:

Oct. 5 – Debbi’s meatball stroganoff over egg noodles, veggies, roll, salad bar and dessert

Oct. 7 – Tonie’s biscuits and gravy, eggs to order, sausage, fruit, banana bread and juice

Oct. 12 – Vickie’s fried chicken, mashed potatoes with gravy, veggies, roll, salad bar and dessert

Oct. 14 – Lion’s customized-4-u omelets, hash browns, toast and fruit

Oct. 17 – Annie’s open face meatloaf sandwich, mashed potatoes with gravy, side salad and dessert

Oct. 19 – Laurie’s boneless pork ribs, braised carrots, cheesy potato casserole, salad bar, roll and dessert

Oct. 21 – Comrades eggs to order, bacon or sausage, home fries, toast and fruit

Wednesday canteen snacks and hors d’oeuvres potluck.

Thursday-$1 all-beef hot dogs with all the trimmings, 4-7 p.m.

Friday Dinners – 5-7 p.m.

Saturday - $1 all-beef hot dogs with all the fixings – Canteen opens 3 p.m.

Sunday Breakfast – 8:30-10 a.m.

Saturday: Canteen snacks are available 3 p.m.

Remember you don’t have to be a member of the VFW to enjoy a great meal. Meals are open to all and include coffee, tea and hot chocolate.

If you were born in October, your birthstone is an opal, and your flower is a marigold.
