Hemet families visit Hemet Fire Station 1 Open House for National Fire Prevention Week

One group of children stopped, dropped, rolled and crawled away to escape the imaginary flames as another group, with a little help, crawled out of a pretend burning home window.

Still others manned a live fire hose to help put out a playhouse fire.

Then hoping to help, a 5-year-old climbed into the boots and Nomax suit of a real firefighter. Alas, it was a little too big for him.

For dozens of children, the special activities at the annual Hemet Fire Station No. 1 Open House Saturday, Oct. 6, on Juanita Street was a lot of fun, but in reality, the exercises they learned could one day sa...
