Murrieta City Council candidate denies allegations of stolen valor

Harry Ramos, pictured here in 2016, is denying allegations made against him for stolen valor due to what he calls a "mistake" on his candidate statement.

Harry Ramos, former mayor for the city of Murrieta and current candidate for District 2 of that city's council, is facing allegations of stolen valor due to statements issued in his candidate statement on the city of Murrieta website at www.murrietaca.gov, something he said was simply "a mistake."

In his candidate statement, Ramos said that he was a "proud veteran" who joined the U.S. Marine Corps after the events of 9/11.

"During this time, I served in both operations Desert Storm and Desert Shield," his candidate statement said.

The only problem? Desert Storm and Desert Shield took place...
