LAKE ELSINORE - One man was killed and a second seriously injured on Thursday, Oct. 25 in a two-vehicle, head-on collision in the

unincorporated Lakeland Village area along Lake Elsinore.

The crash was reported just before 5 p.m. at the intersection of Grand Avenue and Vail Street, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The deceased victim had been driving a 2009 Ford Focus south on Grand Avenue and was approaching Vail Street when, according to witnesses, the car drifted into the oncoming lane, directly into the path of a 2003 Chevrolet Suburban SUV, the CHP reported.

"The impact from the head-on traffic collision caused fatal injuries to the driver of the Ford Focus,'' CHP Officer Mike Lessig said. "The driver of the Chevy Suburban suffered major injuries and was transported to the Inland Valley Medical Center (in Wildomar).''

Grand Avenue was closed in both directions until about 7:10 p.m., according to the CHP.
